The catch is that easy can slide into interchangeable. Here is how resorts really price, who the format suits best, and how we keep a packaged day from feeling packaged.
How resorts price a wedding
Most resorts charge surprisingly little for the space itself. What they set is a minimum spend on food and drink, so your guest count fixes the floor of your budget before you have chosen a single flower. Packages cover a set head count, and extra guests bill per person, from about 150,000 rupiah for ceremony seating to 2.5 million with full food and drinks.
Watch the two plus signs. A price written as 150,000,000++ adds service first and then tax on the new total, which works out at 21 percent, not 20. A nett price already includes everything. Corkage, overtime and every other fee pattern are laid out in the real cost of a Bali wedding, which we suggest reading before you compare any two quotes.
If you want the property entirely to yourselves, smaller resorts sell full buyouts, priced as all the rooms plus the event. At the big properties you buy exclusive use of a lawn or a chapel slot instead, and share the pools with hotel guests.
Where the resorts are
Nusa Dua is the gated enclave: manicured lawns, calm sand kept for events, and room for a hundred guests or more without strain. Jimbaran sits next door with its famous bay and seafood dinners on the sand. Sanur, where our team is based, has quieter resorts on reef-calm water and suits older guests better than anywhere else on the island.
Why families pick resorts
Resorts absorb the logistics that sink other formats. Grandparents get lifts, paved paths and an air-conditioned room a short walk from the ceremony. Kids get a pool. Nobody organises drivers, because nobody leaves.
The rain plan is real, too. A ballroom or covered terrace sits on the same property, set by the same team, so a wet-season downpour means a decision made an hour before the ceremony rather than a convoy of trucks arriving at the wrong moment. And because everyone stays on site, the wedding stretches naturally into a weekend, from the first dinner to a lazy breakfast where the night before gets retold table by table.
Where packages feel cookie-cutter, and what we do about it
Every resort has a default wedding: the same arch on the same lawn, a menu picked from a laminated card, florals from a catalogue. It photographs fine. It also feels like someone else’s day.
So we push on the parts that move. Your own florist and photographer instead of the house list, with the resort’s outside-vendor fee written into the quote instead of surprising you later. The ceremony shifted off the default spot to the corner of the property with better light at 5pm. A menu built with the chef rather than chosen from page three. Many of the best resort properties in Uluwatu and Nusa Dua also hold a glass chapel, a separate decision we cover on its own page.

Do we still need a planner at a resort?+
Yes. Even with an in-house venue team, an independent planner keeps the whole picture, your vendors, your look, your budget, aligned, so the day feels personal rather than off-the-shelf.
Are resorts good for big weddings?+
They are ideal. Purpose-built spaces and on-site rooms make large, family-heavy weddings run smoothly.
How much does a resort wedding in Bali cost?+
Most of ours land between 10,000 and 50,000 USD. Resorts price on a food and beverage minimum rather than a venue fee, so guest count sets the floor. Always check whether a quote is nett or ++, because the ++ adds 21 percent on top.
Can we use our own photographer at a Bali resort?+
Almost always, though many resorts charge an outside-vendor fee for suppliers who are not on their house list. We write that fee into your quote from the start, and it is usually worth paying.
What happens if it rains at a resort wedding?+
The backup already exists on the property, usually a ballroom or covered terrace set by the same team. The call is made an hour or two before the ceremony and the day carries on. It is the strongest rain plan of any venue type in Bali.
Do our guests have to stay at the resort?+
No, but most do, and it is half the point. We negotiate a room block early so your group gets held rooms at a fair rate, and anyone who prefers a villa nearby can still come for the day.
