Sima Hotel Sumba
Hotel and function venue, Tambolaka
Photos: Sima Hotel Sumba
Sima Hotel Sumba is an eight-storey hotel on the edge of Tambolaka in southwest Sumba, 12 minutes from the airport. Pool, gym, spa, six room types and four function rooms. It is the least romantic entry in our Sumba list and it earns its place anyway, because of one room.
Tana Humba sits on the top floor: 266.5 square metres with a pre-function area, windows over the island, a band sound system and a projector already fitted. It takes 200 guests at round tables or 300 theatre style, and the hotel group publishes a standing figure of up to 700. Nothing else on Sumba comes close. The island’s beautiful venues are beautiful precisely because they are small and remote, which is fine for 30 people and impossible for 250. Three smaller rooms downstairs handle a welcome lunch or a family dinner.
Most couples who use this hotel pair it with a ceremony somewhere on the coast, then bring everyone back for dinner and dancing indoors. It also works as the arrival and departure hotel for a group heading further out. Nothing is priced publicly, so hire, catering and rooms come as a quote, and we reconfirm current figures with the hotel for your date.

Why we love it
The only room on Sumba that seats a crowd
Every other venue on this island tops out somewhere between 30 and 150 guests, outdoors. Tana Humba on the eighth floor takes 200 at round tables under air conditioning, with a band sound system already installed. If your guest list is large and mostly Indonesian, this is the answer.
Twelve minutes from the plane
It sits just outside Tambolaka, a 12-minute drive from the airport. For guests flying in on the morning plane and out the next day, that saves the 90-minute transfer that every coastal resort on Sumba requires.
We will be honest about what it is
This is a modern hotel with carpets, meeting rooms, a pool, a gym and a spa, not a beach resort. Nobody comes to Sumba for the building. We list it because it solves the one problem the beautiful venues cannot: numbers, indoors, near the airport.
What the venue offers

Common questions
Can you hold a wedding at Sima Hotel Sumba?+
Yes. The hotel runs a meetings and celebrations offer across four rooms, and the top-floor Tana Humba is the one used for weddings. It seats 200 at round tables or 300 theatre style, and the group's own listing quotes up to 700 for a standing reception.
How much does it cost?+
Nothing is published. Function room hire, catering and rooms are quoted per event and depend heavily on your numbers and menu. Prices here sit well below the island's beach resorts, which is the practical reason large Indonesian weddings on Sumba end up in this building.
Is this the right venue for a destination wedding?+
For an international couple who came to Sumba for the landscape, no. We would send you to Cap Karoso or NIHI Sumba instead. For a large guest list, a reception that has to be indoors and rooms next to the airport, this is the only realistic option on the island.
Can we combine it with a beach ceremony?+
Yes, and that is usually the better plan. Hold the ceremony on the coast in the late afternoon and bring everyone back here for dinner and dancing, or use the hotel for the night before and after. Roads on Sumba are quiet but slow, so we build the timings around the drive.
