Nusa Dua is a gated resort enclave on the southeast corner of Bali, twenty to thirty minutes from the airport. It was planned and built as a resort district, which shows: wide clean streets, manicured grounds, a beachfront lagoon protected by an offshore reef, and a row of five-star hotels with their own wedding lawns and chapels.
Who it suits
Big weddings and family weddings. If you are bringing eighty to two hundred people from several countries, Nusa Dua does something no villa or clifftop can: it puts every guest, the ceremony, the dinner, and the after-party inside one property with lifts, air conditioning, and flat paths between them.
That makes it the obvious base for a resort and hotel wedding, and the easiest area on the island for grandparents, small children, and anyone with limited mobility.
Where you can marry here
- Beachfront lawns on the lagoon, most of them private to the resort
- Purpose-built glass chapels, air-conditioned, with the sea through the back wall
- Ballrooms for large receptions and for a guaranteed dry evening
- Garden and poolside settings inside the resort grounds
The east-facing thing
Nusa Dua looks east across the water. The sun rises out of the sea here and sets behind the hotels. You get soft, kind light in the late afternoon and a genuinely beautiful sunrise if anyone is up for it, but there is no ocean sunset behind your vows.
We say this early because couples arrive with a sunset photograph in their heads and it is better to know now. If that image is non-negotiable, the west coast is where you want to be.
What to watch in the contract
Resort weddings are priced differently to villas. Most properties here work from a minimum spend on food and drink rather than a venue hire fee, and most charge a surcharge for bringing in outside suppliers such as your own photographer or florist.
Neither is a problem once it is in the budget. Both are unpleasant discovered at signing. We read the terms with you and negotiate the room block while your date is still flexible, which is the only point at which you have any leverage.

Built for large groups
Nusa Dua is a planned resort enclave, which sounds unromantic and solves real problems. Wide flat paths, lifts, air conditioning, and enough rooms in one place for two hundred guests.
Calm, reef-protected water
A reef sits offshore and takes the swell out, so the lagoon is flat and safe. It is the easiest water in Bali for children and for guests who want to actually swim on the wedding morning.
The chapel capital
Several of the big resorts here have their own glass wedding chapels, air-conditioned and pointed at the sea, which removes weather from the ceremony entirely.
It faces the sunrise, not the sunset
This is the honest trade-off. The sun comes up over the water here and sets behind the resorts, so an ocean sunset ceremony is not on the table. Couples who want that go west, to Jimbaran or the Bukit.

Can we have a sunset ceremony in Nusa Dua?+
Not over the water. Nusa Dua faces east, so the sun rises out of the sea and sets behind the resorts. You still get beautiful soft light late in the day, but if the photograph you want is the sun dropping into the ocean behind you, we would steer you to Jimbaran or Uluwatu instead.
Is it good for older guests and children?+
It is the best area in Bali for both. Flat paved paths, lifts in the resorts, calm shallow water, medical facilities close by, and short walking distances between the room, the ceremony, and dinner.
How large a wedding can Nusa Dua handle?+

Does it feel like the real Bali?+
Less than Ubud or the east coast, and we will say that plainly. Nusa Dua is a managed enclave and it is polished rather than raw. What you get in return is that everything works. Many couples pair a resort wedding here with a day trip inland so guests see both.
Are there extra charges for outside vendors?+
Usually. Most Nusa Dua resorts charge a fee for bringing in your own photographer, florist, or band, and many set a minimum spend on food and drink. We read those terms before you sign and put them in your budget rather than letting them appear later.
