Cap Karoso
Beachfront design resort, Karoso Beach
Photos: Cap Karoso
Cap Karoso opened in 2023 on a stretch of white sand at Ate Dalo, on the southwest corner of Sumba, and it changed what a wedding on this island can look like. Before it, a Sumba wedding meant 20 people at a small property. Cap Karoso holds 40 rooms and 20 villas and takes up to 150 guests, which is the difference between an elopement with witnesses and an actual wedding.
The architecture is the other reason we send couples here. Rattan-wrapped columns, travertine, ikat patterns cut into timber screens, art from the resort’s residency programme on the walls. Ceremonies happen on the beach, dinner runs at a long table on the sand under festoon lights or moves to the beach club, and the farm inland handles the welcome lunch and supplies the kitchens. There are two restaurants, two pools, a spa, a kids club and a clinic on site, which matters more than it sounds on an island this remote.
The transfer from Tambolaka airport is about 50 minutes, the shortest of any Sumba venue worth marrying at. Weddings are quoted individually rather than sold as packages, and room rates move with the season. We reconfirm current figures and availability with the resort for your date.

Why we love it
The only Sumba venue built to take a crowd
Most of the island tops out around 30 guests. Cap Karoso holds 40 rooms and 20 villas and can host up to 150 people on the property, which makes it the one place on Sumba where a real guest list still works without splitting everyone across three hotels.
Design that does half the styling for you
The architecture is contemporary Indonesian done seriously: rattan columns, travertine, ikat motifs cut into timber, art by residency artists on the walls. Set a long table on the sand at golden hour and you barely need to decorate.
A farm that feeds the wedding
The three-hectare farm inland supplies the kitchens, and the cooking leans Mediterranean-Indonesian. We often build a welcome lunch at the farm and keep the beach for the wedding day itself.

Common questions
Can you get married at Cap Karoso?+
Yes. The resort has a gatherings offer covering weddings, anniversaries and family celebrations, with the ceremony usually on the beach in front of the property and dinner either on the sand or at the beach club. There is no fixed package, so everything is quoted for your numbers and dates.
How many guests can Cap Karoso take?+
Up to 150 on the property. Beds are the real limit rather than space: 40 rooms and 20 villas sleep a large part of that number, and for anything bigger the resort arranges rooms at other hotels on the island. We would still call 40 to 80 the sweet spot here.
How far is it from the airport?+
About 50 minutes by road from Lede Kalumbang airport in Tambolaka, which is the shortest transfer of any serious wedding venue on Sumba. The flight from Bali takes around 50 minutes, and the resort arranges transfers for its guests.
What is there for guests to do between events?+
Surfing, snorkelling, horse riding, village visits and cycling, plus the spa and the two pools. The farm tour and a sunset at the beach club are the two things we build into almost every schedule, because they get the whole group together without another transfer.
