Hotel Vila Ombak
Four-star garden resort, Gili Trawangan
Photos: Hotel Vila Ombak
Hotel Vila Ombak was the first international-standard hotel on Gili Trawangan and it is still the one we look at when a wedding guest list runs past what a small beach resort can hold. It sits on the east coast in the village area, a short walk from the harbour, with 132 rooms in six categories spread through mature tropical gardens.
What sets it apart from the rest of the island is the indoor space. Seven function rooms and a grand ballroom take groups from 10 up to 350, which means a wet-season wedding has a real fallback instead of a panic. Ceremonies still work outside, on the garden lawns or by the long pool, and the hotel’s own wedding photographs show the grounds after dark: aisles lined with foliage, strings of warm bulbs overhead, dinner among the thatched roofs.
Being able to house the whole guest list on one property matters here more than it would on the mainland. There are no cars on the Gilis, so every transfer means walking or a horse cart, and having 132 rooms in one place removes most of that. Vila Ombak quotes weddings per event rather than publishing packages, so we get a written quote covering venue, catering and rooms, and we reconfirm current figures with the hotel for your date.

Why we love it
The only real ballroom on the island
Trawangan is beach venues and open lawns, which is lovely until it rains in February. Vila Ombak has a proper indoor ballroom plus seven function rooms, so a 200-person dinner has somewhere to go without anyone getting wet. That alone changes which months we will book here.
Enough rooms to house the whole guest list
At 132 rooms across six categories, from traditional lumbung huts to Akoya pool villas, this is one of the few Gili properties that can sleep a full wedding party on one site. No shuttling guests around an island with no cars.
Gardens that carry an evening
The grounds are mature: frangipani, palms, thatched roofs, and paths between them. Strung with festoon lights and lined with foliage, they photograph beautifully after dark, which is what the hotel's own wedding images keep showing.

Good to know
Common questions
How many guests can Hotel Vila Ombak host?+
The hotel publishes a range of 10 to 350 across its eight function spaces and outdoor areas. Which space suits you depends on numbers and whether you want the ceremony outside; we plan the ballroom as the wet-weather fallback either way.
Can our guests all stay at the hotel?+
Usually yes. With 132 rooms in six categories the property can absorb most wedding guest lists, which is unusual on the Gilis. We hold a room block early, because Trawangan sells out in July, August and over New Year.
Is there an indoor option if it rains?+
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons we recommend Vila Ombak. The grand ballroom is air-conditioned and takes a full seated dinner, so a wet-season wedding has a genuine plan B rather than a scramble for tarpaulins.
Where is the hotel on Gili Trawangan?+
On the east coast, in the main village area a short walk from the harbour, looking across the strait to Lombok and Mount Rinjani. Gili Trawangan is in West Nusa Tenggara, not Bali, and the crossing from Bali takes one and a half to two and a half hours by fast boat.
