Munduk Tentrem
Mountain retreat with an amphitheatre, Munduk
Photos: Munduk Tentrem
Munduk Tentrem sits at 1,300 metres on the Gobleg ridge, above the village of Munduk in Buleleng. The retreat is small and the one thing it built for events is worth the drive: an amphitheatre cut into the grass slope, curved concrete benches stepping down to a raised round timber stage, with the valley open behind it. Fifty people fit on the benches, the bowl carries sound on its own, and the whole thing faces the hills.
Everything else supports that. One Eighty Panorama Restaurant runs an open deck with views from the peaks to the Bali Sea, and it puts blankets on the tables because the evenings are cold. There is an infinity pool with a stone fire pit, a spa, an organic farm and guided walks to the Munduk waterfalls. Rooms run from Deluxe up to Suite Tentrem and a standalone cottage, sleeping 16 people in total.
The retreat lists weddings around the amphitheatre with a priest, cake, guest gift and beverages included, but publishes no price for them. Room rates start at IDR 1,500,000 per night, about USD 89. We get a written quote for your date and reconfirm the current figures with the venue.

Why we love it
The amphitheatre is a proper ceremony space
Curved concrete benches cut into the grass slope, a raised round timber stage at the bottom, and open hillside beyond it. Fifty people sit facing you with the valley behind, and the shape of the bowl means the vows carry without a PA. Very few small venues on Bali have anything designed this way.
Sixteen beds, which decides your shape
The whole property sleeps 16 across the rooms, suites and the cottage. So a 50-guest ceremony means most people drive up for the day or stay down in Munduk village, while the couple and the closest family take the retreat. We would rather say that plainly than let you find out in month five.
1,300 metres, and they hand out blankets
The restaurant deck comes with blankets on the tables and hot tea to order, because the evenings genuinely get cold up here. The fire pit by the pool does the rest. It is the most useful thing a highland venue can do and most of them do not bother.

Good to know
Common questions
Can you hold a wedding at Munduk Tentrem?+
Yes. The retreat lists weddings on its events page and prices them around the amphitheatre for 50 guests, with a priest, cake, guest gift and beverages named as inclusions. No figure is published, so we get a written quote for your date and guest count.
How many people does the amphitheatre hold?+
Fifty seated, on the tiered benches facing the round stage. That is the venue's own number and it is a sensible one. Above 50 you would be standing people on the grass at the sides, which works for a drinks reception but not for a ceremony.
Can our guests stay at the resort?+
Some of them. The property sleeps 16 in total across the rooms and the cottage, so a full guest list spreads into Munduk village and the lodges nearby. Most couples take the retreat for themselves and their families and bus everyone else up for the day.
What is the drive like?+
Around two and a half to three hours from Ngurah Rai Airport, up through Bedugul and along the ridge past the twin lakes. The last stretch is narrow and slow. We build the schedule around an early ceremony, partly for the light and partly because the cloud tends to close in later.
