Alamayah sits above Kerewe Beach in Lamboya, on the southwest coast of Sumba, about two hours by road from Tambolaka. Six suites, an open-plan ground floor cooled by water features, a farm-to-table restaurant, a pool among the palms, and Sumbanese horses on the sand below.
For a wedding, the whole property is the only sensible format. Alamayah is a boutique retreat rather than a wedding venue, so a couple takes all six suites and the place stops being a hotel for the duration. Ceremonies work on the pool terrace with the palms and the ocean behind, or on the beach below. Dinner runs in the restaurant or outside, and because the kitchen is only cooking for your group, the menu is a conversation rather than a package.
The other reason we like it is that guests have something to do. Six suites is small, and Alamayah runs as a boutique retreat rather than a wedding venue. That leaves one format worth doing: your group takes every room, the kitchen cooks for you alone, and nobody else is on site for the days that matter.

Riding along the sand and swimming Sumbanese horses in the shallows is the image that sells this island, and the team sets it up on the beach below the property rather than as a day trip somewhere else. It gives portraits that look like nowhere else in Indonesia.
Set up for people who want to do things
Complimentary surfboards and paddleboards, full-time surf guides, a jet ski and two boats for reaching the breaks, plus a fitness room and an Ayurvedic spa with a steam room. For a wedding week where guests need filling between events, that is a lot of programme already sitting on site.

Can you get married at Alamayah?+
There is no published wedding offer here, so a wedding means booking the whole retreat and arranging the day directly. Your group takes all six suites, the kitchen and staff work only for you, and the ceremony happens on the pool terrace or on the beach below. We negotiate that arrangement and bring in styling, flowers, a celebrant and photography ourselves.
How many guests can Alamayah take?+
Six suites, so this is a wedding for the couple and a small circle rather than a full guest list. Anyone beyond the house has to stay at another property, which on this coast means a drive of some length, so we keep the numbers inside the six rooms wherever possible.
How far is it from Tambolaka airport?+
About two hours by road, and the property arranges private or group transfers. The flight from Bali to Tambolaka takes around 50 minutes. It is the longest drive of any venue on our Sumba list, so we plan an arrival day into every schedule.
What is there to do around Alamayah?+
Surfing on the breaks in front, with guides and boats, riding and swimming with horses on the beach, waterfall hikes and village visits. The team steers guests toward quieter local spots rather than the busy sites several hours away, which is the right call for a wedding group on a tight schedule.
