Slow Private Pool Villas Gili Air
Private villa estate, Gili Air
Photos: Slow Private Pool Villas Gili Air
Slow is a ten-villa estate in a coconut grove on Gili Air, and it is the property we point to when a couple wants the whole place to themselves. Every villa has its own pool, its own walled garden and a thatched roof over carved timber, with stepping stones across the water at the entrance. A wedding party of around 20 fills the estate, which turns a public island into a private one for the weekend.
The property publishes a wedding offer, arranged with a local agency, with a brochure and a questionnaire rather than a price list. Ceremonies happen in the gardens between the villas or on the beach five minutes away on the west coast, and the spa and yoga pavilion covers the morning before and the day after. There is no restaurant on site: breakfast comes to the villa and dinners are either brought in or eaten at one of the places along the beach, which on Gili Air are good enough that this stops being a problem.
Gili Air is the island we suggest most often for a wedding group. Quieter than Trawangan, better supplied than Meno, small enough to walk end to end. Wedding costs are quoted per event rather than published, and we reconfirm current figures with the property for your date.

Why we love it
Ten villas means the whole place is yours
This is a small estate, not a hotel, so a wedding party of around 20 can take every villa and effectively own the property for the weekend. That is the cleanest way we know to run a wedding on the Gilis, where nothing else is private.
Gili Air is the island we recommend most
Trawangan is loud and Meno is nearly empty. Air has real restaurants, a relaxed pace and enough infrastructure to feed a guest list, which is why it is our default suggestion for a wedding party rather than an elopement of two.
Architecture that carries the photographs
Thatched roofs, carved timber doors, walled gardens, green-tiled pools and stepping stones across the water. The property was built with an eye rather than assembled from a resort catalogue, and it shows in every corner of the place.

Common questions
Can you get married at Slow Gili Air?+
Yes. The property publishes a wedding offer arranged with a local agency, with a brochure and a questionnaire rather than a fixed price list. We work with that or bring our own suppliers, and we confirm the shape of the day and a written quote before anything is booked.
How many guests does it suit?+
Ten villas, so think a wedding party of roughly 20 staying on site and a ceremony to match. Guests beyond that stay elsewhere on Gili Air, which is small enough to walk. For a large seated reception we would look at Gili Trawangan instead.
Is it on the beach?+
No. Slow sits in a coconut grove in the quieter middle of Gili Air, about five minutes on foot or by bicycle from the white sand on the west coast, and roughly 20 minutes' walk from the harbour. Ceremonies can happen in the gardens or on the beach nearby.
Why Gili Air rather than Bali?+
Because it is quiet, car-free and still has restaurants and a working supplier chain, which Gili Meno does not. The Gilis are off Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara, a fast boat of one and a half to two and a half hours from Bali, so we always build a buffer day into the travel.
