Sumba Beach House
Beachfront villa with beach bar, Lamboya
Photos: Sumba Beach House
Sumba Beach House is a small thatched-roof property sitting directly on the sand at Pantai Kerewe, on the Lamboya coast of west Sumba. Four ocean-facing suites, a pool, and an open-air beach bar under a traditional pavilion with the surf breaking out front. It is built in Sumbanese style with modern rooms behind the thatch, and there is very little else along this stretch of coast.
For weddings it works in exactly one format: take the whole house. Four suites fills up fast with a couple and their closest people, and once the property is yours the bar becomes the reception venue, the pool deck becomes the drinks area and the ceremony happens a few metres away on the sand. That last part matters more than it sounds. Most remote venues put a transfer between the ceremony and the dinner, and here there is none.
There is no wedding package and no published event pricing, so this is a direct arrangement with the owners around a whole-house booking. We handle that negotiation, agree private use of the bar for the evening, and bring styling, flowers, a celebrant and photography with us from Bali. We reconfirm current figures and availability with the property for your date.

Why we love it
Four suites means the whole house is yours
You can book a single suite or take the entire property, and for a wedding the second option is the only one that makes sense. Four suites is small enough that a couple and their closest people fill it, and then the bar, the pool and the beach out front stop being shared.
The bar is already a venue
The Beach Bar sits under an open-air pavilion a few steps from the sand, with ocean-facing seating and sun beds. Add a long table and some lighting and the reception is done, which on an island with no rental companies is worth a great deal.
Right on the sand at Pantai Kerewe
This is absolute beachfront on the Lamboya coast, with surf breaking in front and almost nobody around. Ceremonies happen a few metres from the suites, which removes the transfer that ruins the timing at most remote venues.

Common questions
Can you get married at Sumba Beach House?+
There is no published wedding offer, so a wedding here means booking the whole house and arranging the day directly with the owners. With four suites this is elopement and micro-wedding territory: the two of you plus a handful of people who stay on site for a few nights.
How many people can stay there?+
Four suites, so realistically eight to ten people depending on how the rooms are configured. Anyone beyond that stays elsewhere, which on this coast means a drive, so we keep the guest list inside the house wherever possible.
Is the beach bar private?+
Not by default. The Beach Bar is open to outside visitors as well as house guests, which is part of its charm on a normal day and a problem on a wedding day. For a wedding we agree private use of the bar for the evening as part of the whole-house booking, in writing, before anything is confirmed.
How do we get there?+
Fly Bali to Tambolaka, around 50 minutes, then drive south to the Lamboya coast. It is one of the more remote corners of west Sumba, so plan an arrival day and let us arrange the transfer rather than relying on finding a car at the airport.
