Will it feel cheesy?+

Do we really need an MC?+
If it is a sit-down reception with speeches, yes. Somebody has to move eighty people from cocktails to their seats, cue the speeches, and get the room to the dance floor. Without that, evenings drift and the schedule quietly loses an hour that comes off the end of the night.
Can a friend do it instead?+
They can, and it works when the friend is genuinely comfortable in front of a room and knows both halves of your guest list. What a friend cannot easily do is hold a bilingual room, coordinate with the caterer and the band, and stay sober enough to keep the timeline. Ask them to give a speech instead.
What language will the MC speak?+
