Penida Colada is the north shore’s default meeting point, and for a two-person wedding on this island it solves the part nobody plans: dinner. It is a beachfront restaurant and bar on the Toyapakeh to Ped road, a timber deck laid on the sand with bean bags and fringed parasols, an upstairs terrace that looks straight across the strait at Mount Agung, and a band that starts as the sky goes orange.

For celebrations it hires out its private upstairs dining area, which is more than most places on Penida can offer. That works for a wedding dinner after a ceremony at Amok Sunset or on the cliffs, for the welcome meal the night before, or for a family lunch the day after. The kitchen runs an Australian and Indonesian menu all day, and the water in front is calm enough to snorkel from the steps.

What it is not is a ceremony venue. There is no chapel, no lawn, no aisle, and we will say so rather than sell it as one. Treat it as the evening half of a Penida elopement and it earns its place, sitting minutes from both harbours so nobody faces the island roads after dark. Nothing is published, so we quote the space and the menus with the restaurant and reconfirm current figures for your date.

Why we love it

Where a Penida elopement eats

Most couples marrying on this island are two people. Penida Colada is the answer to the question nobody plans for, which is where you actually have dinner afterwards. Table on the upper terrace, Mount Agung across the water, the sun going down behind Bali, live music starting on the deck below.

A real private floor

The upstairs dining area can be taken as a private space, which is rare on Penida. It suits a small wedding dinner, a welcome meal the night before, or the family lunch on the day after, without the improvisation that most island venues require.

The north shore, not the cliffs

This is a flat, sheltered beach on the Toyapakeh to Ped road, five minutes from the harbour, not a clifftop. The water in front is calm enough to snorkel from the steps. It is the easy, comfortable end of Penida and it pairs well with a ceremony somewhere wilder earlier in the day.

Good to know

Common questions

Can you hold a wedding at Penida Colada?+

Not a ceremony in the usual sense, and we would rather be straight about it. There is no chapel, lawn or dedicated ceremony space. What it does well is the private upstairs dining area for a wedding dinner, a welcome meal, or a small celebration after a ceremony held elsewhere on the island.

Where is Penida Colada?+

On the Toyapakeh to Ped road on the north coast of Nusa Penida, part of Bali's Klungkung regency, a few minutes from both harbours. That makes it one of the easiest places on the island to reach after the 30 to 45 minute fast boat from Sanur.

Can you book it privately?+

The upstairs dining area is hired as a private space for celebrations and gatherings. Full exclusive use of the whole venue is a bigger ask on a working restaurant, so we check what is possible for your date and group size before promising anything.

What is the view?+

North across the strait to the Bali mainland, with Mount Agung on the skyline and jukung boats crossing all afternoon. Sunset lands slightly to the left of the volcano and the upper terrace has the best angle on it, which is why we book that table early.
