Exploring Sungai Tinggi
It is not difficult to see why. The interiors, decorated in traditional Balinese design, feature coralline-limestone walls, thatched roofs and teakwood. Part of this villa’s quirky charm comes from the collection of antique furniture and artefacts sourced from a variety of locations across Indonesia, which are special touches left by the owners. Another striking feature of the villa is the open-sided living pavilion, fashioned after the wantilan, otherwise known as the traditional village meeting halls.
Whiling away the rest of your afternoon in this delightful pavilion may be a tempting thought, but do make time to explore the other rooms within the villa. The bedrooms exude a cosy and comfortable vibe, and each room is painstakingly decorated with fresh flowers.
Sungai Tinggi: What makes it a unique wedding villa?
The interiors are undeniably beautiful, but we were also drawn by the breathtaking beauty surrounding Sungai Tinggi. The villa, nestled in the south-western coast of Bali, offers it guests a gorgeous sea view. This makes it a rare gem in Canggu, as it known for containing villas set in the heart of lush, verdant landscapes.
Step out into the spacious lawns of the villa, and make your way towards the edge of the garden. The terrain of this garden is not entirely flat, as the lawn slopes uphill, until it reaches the sandy coasts of the beach. Stand by the edge of the lawn, and you will be rewarded with an unobstructed view of the beach and refreshing gusts of salty sea breeze.
Personally, we find that this is a perfect spot to linger at- we were sorely tempted to drag a chair over, bask in the sunlight with an icy beverage, and to enjoy the magnificent views before our eyes.
We were also surprised to discover the proximity of the villa to the beach. Standing right at the edge of the lawn, one only has to take a few steps forward to step onto the sandy coast of the beach. This is a trait that distinguishes the villa from other villas boasting cliff-top locations and panoramic views of the sea, for the latter often does not provide direct access to the beach.
Now, make your way along a narrow pathway leading the garden, and you will find yourself standing in the midst of a spacious lawn, located on a plot of land to the right of the villa. An eye-catching joglo stands on the lawn, and serves as a good facility to entertain guests during a wedding. We were told that this adjacent lawn may be rented along with the villa for weddings or events.
Our tour of Sungai Tinggi now ends. There is a quaint charm to this place, and one cannot help but feel a little reluctant to leave the scenic sights and captivating interiors that the villa offers…
